According to Walby 1990, women are exploited by men through the approach of patriarchy. Walby defines patriarchy as as a system of social structures and practices in which men dominate, oppress and exploit women. Women describe it as the power relationship between men and women and therefore no one should be regarded superior over the other. Mill argues that people should be able to vote to defend their own rights and to learn to stand on their two feet, morally and intellectually. Patriarchy is a system of relationships, beliefs, and values embedded in political, social, and economic systems that structure gender inequality between men and women. Attributes seen as feminine or pertaining to women are undervalued, while attributes regarded as masculine or pertaining to men are privileged.

The second approach is gender roles distribution. Traditionally, people have always viewed women as housekeepers and not fit to search for employment. This makes women vulnerable and lack voice to speak out their problem giving men a chance to oppress and exploit them. They are then forced to subordinate to men in search of their basic needs.
