Clinical sociology is the application of sociological ideas, research/methods, and treatments to client-presented social concerns and problems. Thus, clinical sociology is the same as all sociology, except that it incorporates intervention, prevention, and social amelioration into its paradigm. The term "clinical" refers to a problem-solving approach. Clinical sociologists work with what Thomas Szasz refers to as "issues in life." Some sociologists prefer the terms "sociological practice" or "applied sociology," while others simply refer to "doing sociology."
Examples of community issues include adolescent pregnancy, access to safe drinking water, and criminality.
Adolescent pregnancy continues to be a major cause of mother and child death. Pregnancy and delivery complications are the biggest cause of mortality for girls aged 15 to 19. Because of their young bodies, pregnant girls and adolescents face additional health risks and difficulties.
As the world's population expands and the environment is increasingly harmed by climate change, access to safe drinking water becomes more limited. 785 million people worldwide do not have access to safe drinking water. Parents set aside their concerns about water-borne illnesses and a lack of access to safe drinking water.
Crime, the purposeful conduct of an act that is typically regarded as socially damaging or hazardous and is expressly defined, banned, and punished by criminal law. See criminal law, civil law, common law, court, police, and procedural law for a comprehensive discussion of specific legal issues of crime.
A clinical sociologist, in general, finds issues and provides remedies. Clinical sociologists assist clients in resolving difficulties with society or with other people in therapeutic or counseling settings, such as marital therapy. They may work with particular groups or a whole community to identify problems and devise solutions. Clinical sociologists in consulting roles may advise businesses on how to enhance their social structure in the workplace, typically by discussing concepts such as power dynamics, communication gaps, and gender inequity.
Other responsibilities differ based on the clinical sociology post. A clinical sociologist serving as a mitigator, for example, could prepare and present a client's life history as a testimony to give the jury any pertinent biographical information. To encourage transformation, teachers or trainers may offer knowledge to specific groups of individuals. They may, for example, teach cultural competency to a social services organization or give training on death and mourning to people who work in terminal care.
Poverty may be alleviated in society by giving education, skill training, and employment opportunities.
Unemployment-To tackle the problem of unemployment, the government provides job-oriented education and training to the people.
