Some methods that the HIM professional uses to stay current with changes in the standards applicable to HIM profession are reading the regular updates of the; American Health Information Management Association, (AHIMA). Use of information from WHO for international updates, through the media, by being in touch with others in the industry and reading articles in journals, having health information exchange projects. Written policies and procedures guide the processing and reporting of healthcare information as they are consistent with classification principles and data element definitions, thus access to them makes the HIM professional stay current.
