Answer #1

Question 1)

Molarity of NaCl solution= 2.0 M

Since, 1 mol Na+ ions are there in 1 mol of NaCl, molarity of Na+ ions = molarity of NaCl solution = 2.0 M

Also, 1 mol of Cl- ions are there in 1 mol of NaCl, molarity of Cl- ions = molarity of NaCl solution = 2.0 M

Question 2)

Molarity of CaCl2 solution = 2.0 M

Since, 1 mol of Ca2+ ions are there in 1 mol of CaCl2 solution, molarity of Ca2+ ions = molarity of CaCl2 solution = 2.0 M

Also, 2 mol of Cl- ions are there in 1 mol of CaCl2 , molarity of Cl- ions = 2 × molarity of CaCl2 solution = (2 × 2) M = 4 M.

Question 3

As we calculated in question 1 & 2,

Molarity of Cl- in CaCl2 solution = 4.0 M

Molarity of Cl- in NaCl solution = 2.0 M

Also, molarity is directly proportional to no. of moles.

Hence, no. of moles of Cl- in CaCl2 solution will be more than that in NaCl solution.

Thus, 2 M CaCl2 will have more Cl- as compared to 2 M NaCl.

When you are given a concentration for a compound, such as 1 M NaCl, it indicates the number of moles of formula units per liter (formula-unit concentration). By multiplying the formula-unit concentration by the number of ions per formula unit, you arrive at the ion concentration. For example, a 1 M solution of NaCl has a 2 M ion concentration (1 M of Na+ ions and 1 M of Cl− ions) because there are two ions per formula unit of...
