Mr. Hanson was a 58 years old man who was admitted in hospital for gastric surgery because his various medical treatments was failed to manage his peptic ulcer disease. The most apparent result of the removal of the stomach is the depletion of a storage place for food for its digestion. Due to this, patients are advised to eat small amount of food at a time. Early satiety, Gastric stasis, Fat maldigestion, Dumping syndrome, Lactose intolerance, anemia, and bone disease are the most common intolerances of gastrectomy.

Eating large amount of food once may result gastric dumping syndrome. Another most important effect is loss of stomach lining cells which are responsible for the uptake of vitamin B12. Hence, Gastrectomy leads to vitamin B12 deficiency in the patients. Vitamin B12 defeciency can further lead to megaloblastic anemia in which rate of RBC synthesis is reduced. This risk can be recovered by giving the Vitamin B12 injections to patients.
