Ans) 1) Unlike fat-soluble vitamins, water-soluble vitamins are carried to the body's tissues, but the body cannot store them. Any excess amounts of water-soluble vitamins simply pass through the body. Because these vitamins are needed by our bodies, we need to make sure we intake these vitamins on a regular basis.

2) Small amounts of vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E and vitamin K are needed to maintain good health. Fat-soluble vitamins will not be lost when the foods that contain them are cooked. The body does not need these vitamins every day and stores them in the liver and adipose (fat) tissue when not used.

3) Vitamins and minerals are considered essential nutrients—because acting in concert, they perform hundreds of roles in the body. They help shore up bones, heal wounds, and bolster your immune system. They also convert food into energy, and repair cellular damage.

4) People who may benefit from vitamin and mineral supplements include:
• pregnant women
• women who are breastfeeding
• people who drink alcohol above the amount that is recommended for reducing risk of disease (one standard drink a day for non-pregnant women and two for men)
• cigarette smokers
• illegal drug users
• crash dieters or people on chronic low-calorie diets
• the elderly (especially those who are disabled or chronically ill)
• some vegetarians or vegans
• women with excessive bleeding during menstruation
• people with allergies to particular foods
• people with malabsorption problems such as diarrhoea, coeliac disease or pancreatitis.
