1A. ANS: During the cource of evolution or for the process of species diversity adaptive radiation, continental drift, and Extinction has been responsible. In the period of mass extinctions several species are vanised from the environment, but few are survived through the process of adaptive radiation. Since the masses separated, the organisms preexisting on those masses, who managed and adapted according to the needs and environment of those separated masses, thus resulting in diversification and adaption.
1B. ANS: Changes in development can lead to new live forms through adaptive radiation. With this, new species evolve. For example, Darwin's finches. On the island Galapagos, Darwin's finches developed such that there were changes in their size, shape and morphology of their beaks as they were distributed throughout the island. Since, the species did not develop through sympatry, there developed more than 7 species that inhabited the island.
2. ANS: Evolution is an ongoing, changing process, and over time unfavorable characteristics of a living organism are changed to better benefit that organism. By tracking the disappearance of imperfections (unfavorable traits) of an organism, one can witness the process of evolution.
Ex: Originally giraffes had short
necks like zebras and horses, but as the shorter plant life was
harder to obtain because of competition. So the giraffes with
longer necks were at an advantage, and those who were normal with
short necks starved to death before they could reproduce and pass
on the short neck trait. In this way, the long neck "mistake" or
mutation was passed on and the species evolved to having extremely
long necks.
Other examples include the recessive trait for 5 fingers rather
than six, which is the less common one despite being dominant.
Because humans need 5 fingers, and 6 is extra, this mutation to 1
less finger stayed with the species to the point that almost no one
has 6 fingers these days.
A) Explain how geography, mass extinctions and adaptive radiation help explain the diversity of living organisms....
5. Differentiate between the processes and results of microevolution and macroevolution, and explain how these contribute to speciation. • Explain why individuals do not evolve? At what level does evolution occur? • What are gene pools? Describe microevolution. • What is macroevolution including speciation? What are novel features? 6. Relate the geologic history of the planet to evolutionary history, including mass extinctions and subsequent diversification. • What is the role of mass extinctions and diversification in macroevolution? • How does...
Question 64. Earth has experienced five previous mass extinction events Many ecologists now believe we are experiencing a sixth mass extinction. How does this current mass extinction differ from previous extinction events? The background extinction rate now is much higher now than in previous a. extinction events b. The background rate of extinction is higher now than the rate of biodiversity so the current extinction event is more pronounced than previous ones. There are no differences in the previous and...
Could someone please check my answers? 1. A researcher uncovers a fossil in South America that looks quite similar to a species that currently lives in Africa but does not resemble other South American species. The climate and vegetation in the two locations are very different. What is the MOST likely explanation? A. The fossil must have been transported across the ocean during storms. B. The species are probably not closely related due to convergent evolution. C. There was probably...
Monotremata Marsupialia Assume the mammal cladogram on the right depicts accurate evolutionary relationships. While there is no absolute time on this cladogram, there is relative time running from left to right (right is more recent). Answer the following questions about this tree. Afrosoricida - Macroscelidea Tubulidentata Proboscidea Hyracoidea Sirenia Xenarthra Dermoptera 1. Monotremes (Monotremata) are the only mammals (extinct or extant) that do not give live birth. Based on this information and this tree, what type of group are mammals...
1.How could studying chemosynthetic organisms help scientists better understand the development of life on Earth? 2. Why might fatty acids, amino acids and nucleic acids raise the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution? 3. A company that makes nutritional products develops a new type of protein drink for athletes. One of the company's scientists studies the pH at which a digestive enzyme better breaks down the different proteins in the drink. The scientist uses the following experimental procedure: Five...
Write a 1,500 word case study describing how you might advise and help Uber. The issues need to be addressed on multiple levels including operational, technology, employee engagement, leadership, morale and commitment – and put into the larger context of a slow growth global economy, increased competition, and possibly additional local government disagreements involving taxi and labor factions. Specifically, what are the major areas of concern you have about the current situation at Uber in terms of the challenges in...

PLEASE SUMMARIZE THE 4 (numbered 1-4) ARTICLES TO 4 SENTENCES FOR EACH NUMBER. THANKS. 1. Medications have to be safe for mothers-to-be and for their unborn children. Before the authorities will approve a new drug, it must be tested in animal trials on pregnant rodents and, as a rule, pregnant rabbits. Scientists in the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering at ETH Zurich in Basel have now developed a test that allows them to examine a drug's embryotoxicity in cell...
