Please provide examples of when biomedical research has crossed the line. Are extremes in science ever justified?

Science had evolved over several decades. We, today know a lot more than our ancestors about human body, nature and physics. Science relies on repeatable and measurable experimental data to arrive at conclusions. There are several instances that science had been advised of crossing lines of ethics and morality.

One most recent example is of Chinese scientist who worked on human embryo. Scientist used Crisper Cas9 technology to migrate human embryo to cure a generic disease. Although it did not succeed, the experiment opened the pandora box of ethics. Manju cultures consider working on human embryo is taboo, but ofcourse it is debatable and sensitive issue.

There are several more examples when science crossed lines, for instance during world war 2 nazis did several experiments on live human subjects. It includes testing effects of sea water on human body by injecting sea water into human subjects, repeated hammer hits to study brain response, sleep deprivation to study sleep cycle and mental stability.....etc.

Such differences of opinion arise due to cultural differences. Some may find it as ok to work with human and other may find it taboo. This issue will continue to arise as long as science and culture exist.
