- Referring to the documentary "The Released"
Conflict theory explains the message in the ‘The Released’ which brings out one of the most important flaws of the capitalistic, individualistic and materialistic society. Conflict theory suggests that the society is in a perpetual conflict for the limited resources available where social order is maintained not through consensus but through domination. This would mean that the mentally ill are not allotted enough help from the government that’s run by the power elites because they don’t want to share the resources with them as they are considered not important and equals. When mentally ill patients are released from the prison most of them get back to prison immediately because there is no real help available for them in terms of financial support, medical help or counselling services which leaves them in their mental illnesses forcing them to commit crimes again. This is because they are not able to decide anything on their own in terms of visualizing the consequences of their actions.
