Answer #1

According to ValenceBond Theory, a bond is formed by the overlapping of two atomic orbitals having minimum energy and an unpaired electron each. Only valence shell orbitals are involved inbond formation according VBT.

According to Molecular Orbital Theory, combination of atomic orbitals having minimum energy result in the formation of molecular orbitals which explain the bonding.

Differences between these two theories are,

i) VBT can explain ionic character in a bond whereas MOT does not.

ii) MOT can predict magnetic properties , bond order of a bond whereas VBT can not exactly.
