Case Study 1 using Kitchener Model for Selena age 18.
Selena, age 18, was referred to treatment by a court order after she was arrested for a DUI. This was her first DUI and her first time in counseling. Naturally, Selena’s parents are concerned about what is going on and during your first meeting with Selena, they insist on participating. After all, Selena is still living with them and they are paying for the counseling. Selena’s parents insight it is part of their cultural heritage for family members to address these types of issues together. Identify potential ethical or legal issues that could pertain to this issue and create a plan for how you might move forward in an ethical manner.
I think Selena needs proper attention till the end of time. She has been through a lot of stuff inlife that urged her to fall prey to substance abuse. Not only that , this is a very hard thing to do and say also. NO one can understand the grief of the parents who are clueless about their child's situation. The need is to have a plan in action so that the two can be at peace with one another. We need to maintain gap between them during treatment and ensure they meet only when she is done with treatment.
