How does free will factor into developing a personality theory that is attempting to scientifically measure behaviors?

The ability of the individuals to choose from multiple actions without the influence of any other factor such as interference or intervention from another individual or the surrounding, is regarded as free will. Often, free will is related to the concept of righteousness, morals, virtue ethics, etc. Similarly, personality shall be defined as the emotions, thoughts, actions, etc., of any individual that differentiates him/her when compared to other individuals. Thus, the free or unforced typical behavior of an individual to various situations is regarded as personality. The theories of personality are classified as follows,

1. Psychoanalytic theory – According to this theory, the individuals shall get motivated or demotivated by the forces that are not visible but only experienced. The cognition plays a vital role in determining the actions. Conscious analysis as well as rational analysis are always responsible for adopting a decision.

2. Socio-psychological theory – According to this theory, the actions of the individuals are determined directly or indirectly by the society. The individual relates him/herself to the society and performs actions that are necessary for achieving a satisfaction, goal, survival, etc., in the society.

3. Trait theory – According to this theory, some of the actions of an individual is transferred through the family and the lineage. Through this theory, it is conveyed that some qualities are transferred genetically to the offspring and the same are responsible for the personality of an individual.

4. Self-theory – According to this theory, an individual always perceives an outcome of his/her behavior and acts accordingly to establish a successful outcome. The individuals uses their cognitive functions to iterate the best possible outcomes and decide their course of action in approaching the problems.

Considering the above mentioned personality theories, it could be ascertained that the actions chosen by any individual without motivation as well as rationalizations from the consciousness, without influence from society, without the influence of genetic traits, without the perceptions shall fall into the domain of free will. The same shall be utilized in defining a personality theory, as well. By measuring the repeatability index, temporal extent as well as temporal locus of the actions chosen by free will, the prevalence of a personality in an individual can be analyzed. Also, by considering and associating the six dimensions of behavior, namely, frequency, duration, latency, topography, force and locus with the concepts of free will, the measure scientific measure of a behavior is possible.
