Explain at least two other important functions of auxin in plants besides gravitropism and phototropism.
The most important functions of auxin are-
1. Apical dominance- most important function of auxin is apical dominance. Apical dominance is the growth of central and main stem over axillary or side stem. Auxin helps release ethylene in axillary buds which inhibits its growth and central stem growth continues.
2. Root development- auxin promote root initiation. Auxin also helps in the growth of pre existing roots, growth of adventitious roots etc.
3. High concentration of auxin induces ethylene synthesis. Lower concentration of auxin inhibits ethylene synthesis.
