There are abnormal chromosomes ( abnormal in their size, number, shape..etc.) in tumor cells. How might that contradict Mendelian expectations of two copies of each gene in a normal adult cell?

Mendal has given three laws of inheritance which are the law of dominance, the law of segregation and the law of independent assortment. The law of segregation states that there are two copies of a gene which we call allele and only one of these are passed to the offsprings. The law of independent assortment states that the sorting of alleles is independent of one another. This is an independent event which copy will be passed to the offsprings.

If there is an abnormality, it means the amount of DNA present is higher or lower and also there is more than one copy of the gene are present. There are examples where trisomy or monosomy of a chromosome is present. Which means either three or a single copy of the gene is present which opposes Mendel's law.
