Discussion: Moral Development

To prepare for this Discussion:

• Select an immoral behavior of children or adolescents. Suggested topics include but are not limited to bullying, cyberbullying, fighting, aggression, cheating, and crime.
• Review contemporary news sources to find a recent event (within the last year) highlighting the behavior you have chosen.
• Consider the factors that might have contributed to the behavior, and ways to address the behavior.

I choose cyber bullying which is very prevalent in current generation. As the world is moving faster and technology is developing more and more, everything is online becoming a post in social media. Often we see in comments, when a movie star posts her photo, people start with comments. Bullying them with bad words if they are not properly dressed. While some say that it is her freedom to dress as if she like. Here aggressive adolescents scold her with more sarcastically. Cyber bullying is a benefit in one way that we are not doing it directly rather just passing comments on someone whom they don't like. Bullying traits in children are due to their family environment. If they have parents who always fight or argue with each other or who always blames or scolds someone at their back, these are observed by the children and they develop such nature because he may not know that it is a wrong behavior. Immoral behavior towards women, bullying them on their dressing and character are really such bad behavior which are often not considered as immoral by these adolescents. For example, our neighbors are of aggressive nature. They usually fight with people on roads for silly reasons. Can we expect their children not to fight? Obviously they develop such nature. Also if not at home, friends may influence the children to behave so. So these immoral behaviors are purely because of the environment in which we live.

Recently, in India, two children, one is of 15 year old and the other is a 8 year old. They both stay in a hostel room. They are roommates. One day they both fought with each other and this 8 year old has scolded this 16 year one. The same day night, keeping a grudge on him, the 16 year killed the 8 year in bathroom. Isn't it shocking? How come these children are behaving so and are not afraid of involving in crime?

For such children, counselling helps better, their environment and living has to be changed. Luke we see how people change when they are jailed for a long time. They repent for they have done and they will change. Likewise, change can be brought in these children as they listen
