If Nitrate Ion were cordinated to the cobalt ion the spectroscopy will change the following can be observed:

1. Nitrate Ion will give one strong and sharp combination frequency of 1750-2480 cm-1.
2. Nitrate Ion will give Nitrate Ion will give Symmetric stretching vibration at 2000 cm-1
3. Bands at 1750cm-1 are clearly defined and relatively strong.
4. Bands at 2000-2400 are weaker and broad.
