Transformational leadership by production manager is required where guidance and direction are needed to bring a change towards innovation and development in manufacturing. Changes can include introducing new technologies in manufacturing methods to make the outcomes improved and efficient. Including robotics, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence are examples of such technologies which can change the traditional manufacturing methods to make production more efficient in every way. A production manager will have to adapt to transformational leadership.

For handling such situation it is very important for the leader to have such qualities that he can influence, motivate and guide his team to implement and follow the change. He should be efficient and fully thorough with the knowledge of the new technology himself and educate his team about it likewise. He should maintain an environment of support and independence where workers can work independently but seek his help where required. Setting goals and following them is important as the change implemented should result in increased productivity and not a failure.
