Answer:
DBMS stands for Database Management Systems. As we know, data is being generated at a very high pace every second, either by humans or by machines. So, to handle this large amount of data, we need managing softwares which are generally referred to as database management systems. Also, there are multiple types or we can say, forms of data present or generated time to time. To handle all these different types of data, we need different types of databases also.
Some of the common types of databases are :
1. Relational Databases:
These databases generally handle the type of data which can be represented in a tabular format. Data is stored in the form of row and column where row is said to be a tuple and column is said to be an attribute and the whole table is said to be as a relation.
Examples:
MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, etc.
2. NoSQL Databases:
These databases are an extension over Relational Databases and are generally used to handle the unstructured and large amount of data. There can be multiple types of No Sql databases which can be key value based, document based, etc.
Examples:
MongoDB, HBase, Cassandra, etc.
3. Object Oriented Databases:
These databases store data in the form of objects. Classes define the structure of an object and what data and operations it can do. So, when large number of objects are stored together, it becomes an object oriented database.
Examples:
SmallTalk, Cache, etc.
