An interrupted mating experiment was performed, using four different Hfr strains (A, B, C, and D). The time in minutes for each of the genes is shown in the table below. How long would you expect the time delay to be between his and lip in an interrupted mating experiment?

Select one:
a. 32 minutes
b. 37 minutes
c. 8 minutes
d. 31 minutes
e. 35 minutes
Please explain and or show work.
Thank you.
Lip and His are present in strains A, D and C, so we will use these three strains to determine the final sequence of the genes. I am attaching a picture to show the work. (Note: the time written on the arrows is the delay between genes to be transferred. For example, in strain A, after pyrD has been transferred, lip takes 8 minutes to be transferred next.

From the above calculations, the delay between his and lip = 7+4+4+7+9 = 31 minutes.
Option (d) is correct.

2. You have performed the following mating experiment using Hfr and F"strains of Escherichia coli:(4 marks) Hfr (asp+ trp+ mal+ StrepS) x F (asp-trp-mal- Strep). Strep = streptomycin, an antibiotic Asp = aspartic acid, an amino acid Trp = tryptophan, an amino acid Mal = maltose, a sugar molecule, can be used by some organisms as an energy source rather than glucose (a) What selective media would you use to score recombinant colonies that have received all of the markers...
An Hfr strain is used to map four genes in an interrupted mating experiment. The cross is Hfr/a+b+c+ rifs ×F−a−b−c− rifr . (No map order is implied in the listing of the alleles; rifr is resistance to the antibiotic rifampicin.) The a+gene is required for the biosynthesis of nutrient A, the b+ gene for nutrient B, c+ for nutrient C. The cross is initiated at time = 0, and at various times, the mating mixture is plated on medium. Each plate contains minimal medium (MM) plus rifampicin....

This is a Hfr mapping question and I'm completely lost
here
Basically the bonus is a puzzle. It is based on mapping done with 4 different Hfr strains. I've given you the minutes that that it takes for several of the markers on the map to transfer in as determined by Hfr mapping. All you have to do is put them in the correct order around the circular chromosome and show me how many minutes are in between each marker...
Three Hfr strains of E. coli, each with genotype StrS, lacZ+, A, B, C, D are mated to an F- strain with the genotype StrR, lacZ-, a, b, c, d. Samples of conjugating strains are collected and disrupted every minute for one hour using a blender. Cells are plated under conditions that allow the lacZ+, A, B, C, and D alleles to be identified. The time at which each dominant allele is transferred is shown in the table. lacZ A...
