Case: Maine Law vs. the Internet Service
Providers
The case: The Internet Service Providers were held
responsible for using the personal information of the people who
were using the service of these internet providers. The people
raised the concern that this was unethical as stated in the Law and
was a breach in their privacy. They also stated that there should
be clear instructions as to what sort of personal information
should be used of the users and there should be a button to opt in
or opt out of it. Hence, the people who are opting in would be
totally aware that their personal information will be used and then
the Internet Service Providers cannot be held responsible for
breaching any sort of privacy.
The Internet Service Providers however, stated that why they should
be the only ones to be held responsible for the same when at the
same time the giants like Google and FaceBook who also practice the
same thing of using the personal information of the consumers are
not being said anything and roped into this issue.
This issue has been going on for some time and after listening to
both the parties, the following conclusion has been draw.
Conclusion: A privacy bill has been formulated in
Maine which will be signed in July 2020 and hence forth no personal
information can be used without asking the consumers
beforehand.
