Question

Do not round intermediate calculations, Give your final answer(s) to three significant figures. A strain gage located at C on the surface of bone AB indicates that the average normal stress in the bone is 3.80 MPa when the bone is subjected to two 1,210-N forces as shown. Assuming the cross section of the bone atC to be annular and knowing that its outer diameter is 24 mm, determine the inner diameter of the bones cross section at C.

Answer #1

stress = force / area

3.8 N/mm^2 = 1810 N / 3.14 (24^2 - d2^2) mm^2

d2 = 9.984 mm is the inside dia
