Answer #1

Solution:

Beginning inventory units 0
Units produced 12,000
Units available for sale 12,000
Units sold 11,500
Ending inventory in units 500

Absorption costing = Direct materials+ Direct labor+Variable manufacturing overhead + fixed manufacturing overhead cost per unit

=$2.50+0.75+0.25+$6,000/12,000 units

=$2.50+$0.75+0.25+0.50

=$4.00

Variable costing =Direct materials + Direct labor + variable manufacturing overhead

=$2.50+0.75+0.25

=$3.50

Absorption costing Variable costing
Ending inventory in units 500 500
Product cost per unit $4 $3.50
Balance in finished goods inventory $2,000(500 ×$4) $1,750(500 ×$3.50)
