The foot is red and edematous. Purulent drainage is noted from the sore. The patient states he knows he supposed to check his foot daily, he just forgot the last few days. He’s now worried he will lose his foot like his brother did.

• Meticulous handwashing to prevent cross infection

• Provide patient with comfort measures to mobilize out of the bed
• Teach active and passive exercise of the leg to improve circulation
• Assess for pain and administer medication to relieve pain as it can interfere with mobilization
