Answer #1

Stereotyping makes person into a threat or risk of being in particular social group. The stereotype in the health care affects both health care provider and receiver.

The negative stereotype can have impact in nursing profession when the patient is given the individualised care by their gender, race religion ethnicity.

This can bring about loss of trust in patients regarding the health care and reduces the quality care to the patients. Not maintaining the confidentiality, trustworthiness also affects the patient to lose his hope on the nurses of health care.

When the diversity of culture is not maintained in the workplace also affects the nurses to accept the patient as he is.

The efforts to build a more professional image for the nurse profession are:

* having the policies in the institution regarding diversity of work place

* training regarding the culture barriers and to overcome it

* cultural competency training

* to audit to and review the quality of care provided

For negative stereotypes in the media:

* positive fictions about nurses can be shown

* open interview with nurses and their individualised care towards the sick and needy

* statistic of the patient satisfaction with nurses would also help public to remove the negative threat of opinion on nurses.
