At first we number the 10 homes serially, in a suitable order, from 1 to 10. Since 10 is a 2-digit number, we consider random numbers in sets of two and assign 01,02,...,10 to the homes with serial numbers 1,2,...,10. In order to avoid frequent rejection of numbers, actually we take numbers from 01, to 90 (the highest 2-digit multiple of 10) and reject 00 and numbers greater than 90. Given a number from 01 to 90, to decide which home it corresponds to, we divide the number by 10 and the remainder stands for the sl. no. of the home. Zero remainder is taken to mean sl. no. 10. Random numbers in sets of two are noted, starting from anywhere of random number table (for example 10th figure in the first row) and proceeding row-wise or column wise. Here we must use simple random sampling without replacement technique. So if sl. no. repeated more than one then select one and reject others.
Example:
Random no. 33, 18, 02
Remainder after division by 10: 3, 8, 2
Sl. no. of the selected homes: 3, 8, 2.
Since residents of same are homogeneous in nature, so in this case we can estimate his response using other residents of that home.
