Answer #1

During the workup of a reaction mixture to isolate the product, a organic solvent should be added to the reaction mixture to give the extraction from the aqueous layer. The chosen organic layer should have lower boiling point value than that of the product and the ideal boiling point of the solvent should be around 30-90 0C, which can easily removed from the rotary evaporator pressure.

In a lab, we are to draw and carry out a purification scheme for the carboxylic acid product of a Grignard reaction we've performed, in order to then identify the starting material we used using the melting point of our carboxylic acid product. A flowchart of our purification scheme is required, indicating where all molecules (in their current ionization states) are at each step, ending with the dry carboxylic acid at the end. Once the dry ice has been thoroughly...

please decided to carry out the synthesis using diethyl ether as the (Due to its low boiling point diethyl ether is a good, though highly flammable, bulk solvent for many organic reactions because it is readily removed from the reaction mixture.) She placed the appropriate mass of -butené in the diethyl ether solvent, then added MBr to start the reaction. She isolated a product and obtained a proton NMR spectrum for the sample. The spectrum that appeared on the screen...

Slowly add 3 M HCl(aq) drop-wise. The solid may need to be broken up with a stirring rod or a pipet. Continue to add acid until the aqueous phase (bottom layer) tests positive with pH paper. Extractions can be done using the conical funnel...
