Answer)

The allowance for bad debts account reports that an estimated amount of accounts receivable is going to become uncollectible.

The write off decrease the balance of accounts receivable be the amount that is going to be uncollected.

The amount of write off is calculated by adding bad debts expenses of 13,000 to the beginning allowance of bad debts of $ 7,100 and then substracting the ending allowance for bad debts of $9,700 as under:

Writeoffs = Beginning allowance + Bad debts expense - Year end allowance

Writeoffs = 7,100+ 13,000 - 9,700

Writeoffs =$10.400
