I was very surprised to learn just how expansive the range of roles social workers can fill. I think what struck me most was social workers in settings like retirement homes, and dealing with elderly people. I was always under the impression social workers were mainly concerned with children and young adults. Fighting social injustices, a major goal of social work as expressed by the videos, promotes acceptance of Diversity and encourages people to fight for it. This goal is incredibly important because diversity has been systematically discouraged. The videos also placed importance over considering  everything affecting an individuals life, like their school environment, family, friends, political climate, etc. This described as the systems theory in the textbook. The book said that this theory is used by many social workers,  an so the videos reaffirmed this to me. It was displayed like common sense from the social work perspective. Illegal Immigration is a hot topic in media still, and the political climate continues to stir up issues. I could definitely imagine social workers being involved with the ICE situations concerning child handling. Another issue is with the opioid crisis, which is a huge current issue that doesn’t receive the media coverage it deserves. I can imagine that hospital social workers intervene with addiction issues.

Social workers are one of the most active professionals in the society providing care from a child to an elderly population in retirement home.They are the one who has created awareness and motivation for the general public to fight against social injustice, disparity in an individual life,school,family, friends ,political ,climate, etc.,These social workers has started to work on illegal immigration, political climate, ICE situations, opioid crisis and addiction for public health.
