Answer #1

Initial public offering (IPO) is the process by which a company can raise capital by offering its equity shares through an IPO in the open market and can raise long term capital from the investors who are willing to invest in the company. Company can use that fund for its expansion goals and give its investors more profit through dividend payment and appreciation of share price.

Wal-Mart is the largest retailer in the world and retailing is the service industries. Wal-Mart came with its IPO in 1970 and its IPO is considered as one of the most successful IPOs in the history. The company has offered $16.50 per share in its IPO. Suppose that if investors had purchased just 100 share of Wal-Mart that time, then it is worth more than $4 million today after considering all the stock splits of the company. The IPO of the company was successful because it has given great return on investment to its long-term investors.
