Discuss fuction and structure of a neutrophil (two paragraphs).

Neutrophil are a part of wide blood cells.They together act as a fighter towards infection.The majority of WBC is made up of neutrophils counting 55%_70% on the whole.

Structure:

The neutrophils are spherical in shape.When there is an antigen in the body ,it acts by changing its shape to amoebas and engulfs the pathogen and preventing infection. The size of it is approximately 10 to 15 micrometer in its diameter.It has a nucleus in it.This appears like a lobe and usually it in the lobulated forms. These lobules are connected with a chromatin.When the neutrophil matures the segmentation occurs with fading or disappearance of nucleolus.

Functions:

The main functions of the neutrophils are

• It engulfs the antigens, this process is called as phagocytocis
• The release of primary, secondary and tertiary granules by the neutrophils sides in fighting infections
• It plays a vital role in destroying all the invading microbes causing infection
