1.. when the buffer solution of acetic acid (0.1 M) and sodium acetate (0.1 M) is diluted with water so that its volume becomes double, the pH will not change. Because upon the addition of pure water to buffer, it affects the concentration of acetic acid as well as sodium acetate to the same extent. Hence, there is no change in pH of the buffer solution.
2. pH of the acidic buffer solution is given by pH = pKa + log(conjugate base/acid)
The pH of acidic buffer solutions which is made up of 1 part of NaF and 8 parts of HF is given by
pH = pKa + log(NaF/HF)
= 3.1 + log(1/8) = 2.19
The pH of acidic buffer solutions which is made up of 1 part of NaF and 8 parts of HF is 2.19
