Question

4. [1pt]
Six snapshot graphs of travelling harmonic waves are shown. They all have the same frequency but various amplitudes and wavelengths. Rank the waves by phase speed from slowest to fastest. E.g., if the slowest wave is B, the next faster one A, then C, and so on, enter BACDEF.

Answer #1

Phase speed v = \lambda f

Since frequency is same for all cases , so that phase speed v directly proportional to \lambda

For A : \lambda is in between 1m to 1.5 m

For B: : \lambda is more than 3 m

For C : \lambda is in between 0.5 m to 1 m

For D: \lambda is 1 m

For E: \lambda is in between 1.5 m to 2 m

For F: \lambda is 0.75 m

so the speed is from least to greatest is FCDAEB
