Answer #1

Fetal heart tone pattern is mainly categorised into five. They are,

  1. Normal
  2. Baseline tachycardia
  3. Baseline bradycardia
  4. Early deceleration
  5. Late deceleration

Normally by using a fetal monitor, the nurse can easily identify the fetal heart tone pattern. Sometimes fetal heart tone pattern is visible in combinations or the pattern can be changed from one to another suddenly. In those cases, identification of actual fetal heart tone pattern is difficult. Here the solution is CTG tracings. CTG is Cardiotocography which is useful for monitoring fetal heart rate pattern during pregnancy. Other uses include early detection of fetal distress and the contraction of the uterus. The device involved in CTG tracing is cardiotocograph where two transducers will be placed to the abdomen of the pregnant woman. One transducer is used to record the fetal heart rate and the other one monitors the contraction of the uterus.
