PPD test or Mantoux test is a tool for screening for tuberculosis.

positive PPD test with a negative chest X-ray indicates latent tuberculosis infection. there are four treatment regimens for latent Tuberculosis infection.

1. isoniazid and rifapentine-3 months course- once weekly

not recommended for

  • less than two years old
  • those with HIV/AIDS
  • isoniazid or rifapentine resistant
  • pregnant woman

2. Rifampin -4 months course- Daily


not recommended

  • those with HIV/AIDS
  • rifapentine resistant
  • pregnant woman

3. Isoniazid - 6 months course- consume daily/ twice weekly

not recommended

  • resistant to isoniazid and presumed infection

4. Isoniazid- 9 months course- daily dose

not recommended for those infection re-occurred with isoniazid resistance

recommended for

  • those with HIV/AIDS
  • pregnant women( with vitamin B6 supplements)

twice weekly dose (isoniazid) - recommended for pregnant women for 9 months
