Explain the description of the fibre nutrient and list the various sources of fibre
Fibre nutrient
* Dietry fibre is a skeletal remain of plant cells that are resistant to digestion by enzymes.
* There are two types of dietry fibres which are soluble and insoluble.
* Hemicellulose pectin, polysaccharide cellulose, mucilage etc are included in soluble fibres.
* Cellulose, legning, hemicellulose etc are insoluble fibres.
* Soluble fibres help in delay gastric emptying, slow down glucose absorption, lower serum
cholesterol level.
* Fibre hold water so the stools become soft and bulky and are easily eliminated from the body.
* High fibre diet help to prevent constipation and easy absorption of glucose that result in low
insulin secretion so for a diabetic patient high fibre diet is really necessary.
* Fibres like pectins, gums, mucilages combine with acids and steroid materials and help to
lower the cholesterol level.
