Today, doctors are trained to follow rigid protocols derived from mass data collection on what works for large segments of the population. Those protocols and data have saved lives over the last few decades—hundreds of millions of them. But have we gone too far? Do you agree with Dr. Halee Fischer-Wright that we are focusing on the science and data to such an extreme that we’re losing sight of the very human patients seeking out human care? Have you ever been misdiagnosed?
The advancement and research in health care has taken a toll and has proved to be beneficial in providing great success to the wellbeing and health care delivery by saving millions of lives. This is very true that the survey, data gathering, technology etc. has aided in providing high quality services and saving lives and be able to increase the life expectancy of the individual.
I feel that all this advancement and new approaches to life have shifted the focus from the patient centred care towards the meedicine based robotic care. The meaning is that the care today has lost its aim to treat patient or client as a human being but mostly these approaches treats the human body as a mechanical tool. This is very evident in many cases where the clients are treated as the object and the social and emotional aspects of care are lacking.
This has caused to enhanced errors, poor care with non-holistic view and reduced patient centerdness in practice. The view that human beings are the entity and seeking health has been lost from the practice and the main focus is derived on the enhancement of physical activitiy and physiology of human body.
At times such aspects lead to missed diagnosis or wrong diagnosis, as physical aspects are taken into care, mental and emotional aspects are left behind leading to errors in some cases.
