• Infuse vancomycin infusion over one hour to prevent the occurance of redman syndrome. Redman syndrome is an anaphylactoid reaction caused by the rapid infusion of the glycopeptide antibiotic vancomycin characterised by pruritic erythematous rash to the face, neck, upper extrimities etc.
• If the infusion is administered too rapidly, hypotension will occur.
• Provide adequate hydration during vancomycin therapy for the prevention of nephrotoxicity. Atleast 2 litres of fluids will be needed in 24 hours.
