Unique NGO was founded 10 years ago as a community-based organization. It enjoys a good reputation with both the community it serves as well as with its donors. Most of the staff have been with Unique for at least 5 years and feel a strong commitment to the organization. This year, Uniques founder announced that he would retire. A new executive director was named and has just joined the organization. The handoff was done carefully with a lot of planning. There was a reception to introduce the new executive director to the community and the donors. It has been thought of as a time of renewal for the organization and there is a lot of excitement about the future. Discussion Questions I. In what stage of development is this team 2. What characteristics of effective teams are either present or missing? 3. What would be the teams next goal for team development? 4. If you were the new executive director, what would you do? What task/support functions would be appropriate? If you were a staff member, what actions could you take to best support the organization?

1. At present unique NGO is at the stage of transformation in which new goals will be set and the staffs will be provided with new responsibilities. It is a stage of continuous renewal and learning which makes the employees more accountable and adaptable to the new scenario. It also aids in the personal growth and development of the staffs from the new transition.

2. The characteristics of an effective team which is existing at present are :

A. Unified commitment

B. Effective communication

C. Competent members

D. Collaborative climate

E. External support and recognition.

The characteristics that are not existing at present are:

A. Common goal

B. Strong leadership

C. Shared responsibility

D. support and trust

E. Realistic deadlines .

3. The next goal for the team development could be transformation consciousness by concentrating on compliancy , innovation and employee empowerment . Also to foster employee's active participation and continuous learning.

4. Being an executive director , I would like to engage in depth with the internal and external customers and also to identify the process patterns , best practices and pain areas. The support functions include optimization of the process and utilisation of the manpower existing . I would also like to utilize the donors for the excellent planning and implementation to realign the organization.

5. Being an existing staff of the NGO , I would like to cooperate to the maximum with the renewal and learning , commit myself to the responsibilities delegated for the upliftment of the organization. I will keep up the good communication pattern and also utilize the opportunity for personal growth and development by joining hands to sort out the issues arising.
