Please Explain in a one short paragraph:

If I am comparing lung cancer death rates between New York State and the rest of the United States, should I use crude or age-adjusted rates? Explain your thinking.

In this case, age-adjusted rates will be a better option. The crude death rate can be biased by many things, one example is age. Because the incidence of cancer death dramatically increases in older adults and less in the younger population, if a country has a higher percentage of older population then the crude rate can be high. Age-adjusted rates adjust the age of the population and make sure that the death rate will not be influenced by age.
