* Opioid agonists.

           Drugs which are act on specific opioid receptors(mu,kappa and delta)

           present in the brain and other tissues of the body is known as opioid

           receptors.

* Examples of opioid agonist.

         1.Morphine.(natural)

          2.Codeine.(natural)

          3. Pethidine (synthetic)

* Intended effects of opioid agonists.

            * Used as analgesics to relieve pain.

            * Opioids produce a feeling of euphoria

               or well being.

            * Pethidine used as a obstetric analgesic

              during labour because it relieve labour pain

              and produce less respiratory depression in new born

              compared to other opioids like morphine.

           * Opioids use as sedatives in the presence of pain.

           * Opioids like morphine and codeine are used as antitussive

              to supress coughing.

* Adverse effect of opioid agonists.

             * Dizziness.

             * Respiratory depression.

             * Vomiting.

             * Urinary retention.

             * Hypotension.

             * Constipation.

             * Dysphoria.
