Question

Problem 1: Consider a heavily modified cannon near the surface of the Earth. This cannon is angled upwards at 60 degrees above the horizontal. A: If the modified cannon launches George Washington at 35 m/s and air resistance is neglected, how high above the ground will the first US president reach? B: At 20m from the ground on the way down, George encounters the escaping helicopter. How far has he travelled horizontally from the cannon at this time? C: What is the total velocity of George Washington in both magnitude and direction at the time in part B when George delivers the jump-kick to the pilot of the helicopter? Answer #1

We have to apply simple projectile as follows

ㄣ u-20 hi 60 R: A) x9.8 G.8 3.0 928 Sea 4.8

Here angle theta = atan(22.95/17.5) = 52.67° below x axis in clockwise direction

And velocity in component form is

V= 17.5i - 22.95j m/s
