When bob moved to a new city after changing jobs in 2017 he drove 100 miles and paid a professional mover 1500.00 his new employer reimbursed him 600.00 for these expenses assume his move related closely to the start of his new job and he met the time and distance test what amount may he claim as an above the line adjustment for moving expenses

An above the line deduction is an item which will be subtracted from gross income for computing the adjusted gross income on the IRS form 1040. A deduction of moving expense in an "above-the-line" deduction indicates it to be subtracted from the gross income to calculate the adjusted gross income. Thus 900 will be claimed by Bob as an above the line adjustment for moving expenses
