Answer #1

here,

m1 = 1 kg , m2 = 2 kg

initial speed , u = 12 m/s

let the final speed be v

using conservation of momentum

m1 * u = (m1 + m2) * v

1 * 12 = ( 1 + 2) * v

solving for v

v = 4 m/s

theta = 37 degree

the distance traveled up the incline be s

using conservation of mechanical energy

0.5 * (m1 + m2) * v^2 = (m1 + m2) * g * s * sin(theta)

0.5 * 4^2 = 9.81 * s * sin(37)

solving for s

s = 1.36 m

the distance traveled up the incline is 1.36 m

    Question 12 In the figure, block 2 of mass 2.20 kg oscillates on the end of a spring in SHM with a period of 14.00 ms. The position of the block is given by x = (1.40 cm) cos(wt + x/2). Block 1 of mass 4.40 kg slides toward block 2 with a velocity of magnitude 8.40 m/s, directed along the spring's length. The two blocks undergo a completely inelastic collision at time t = 3.50 ms.
