In Parkinsons disease the loss happens at a much greater rate and both biochemical measures and imaging studies propose there is a significant decrease in dopamine by the time motor symptoms appear. Degeneration of dopamine neurons is predominantly evident in a part of the substantia nigra called the pars compacta. Parkinsons disease is primarily connected with the gradual loss of cells in the substantia nigra of the brain. This part is responsible for the production of dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical messenger that transmits signals between 2 regions of the brain to coordinate activity.it connects the substantia nigra and the corpus striatum to regulate muscle activity Uncertainty there is deficiency of dopamine in the striatum the nerve cells in this region fire out of control. This leav es the individual unable to direct or control activities. This lead to initial symptoms of Parkinsons disease. As the disease progresses, further areas of the brain and nervous system degenerate as well causing a more profound movement disordei The exact cause for the loss of cells is not known. Possible causes include both genetic and the environmental factors. Certain genes have been found that might be associated with Parkinsons disease. At least 15-20% of Parkinsons disease patients have a close comparative who has parkinsonian symptoms. There may be more than one genetic factor in action of Parkinsons disease. In addition genetic factors might be combined with environmental factors as well.
