ANSWER- Type 1 diabetes in children is a condition in which child's body no longer produces an important hormone (insulin). Child needs insulin to survive, so the missing insulin needs to be replaced with injections or with an insulin pump. Type 1 diabetes in children known as Juvenile diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes.

There is no cure for type 1 diabetes in children, but it can be managed . Advances in blood sugar monitoring and insulin delivery have improved blood sugar management and quality of life for children with type 1 diabetes.

SYMPTOMS -

  • Increased thirst
  • frequent urination
  • extreme hunger
  • weight loss
  • fatigue
  • irritable behaviour
  • fruity smell breath

CAUSES -

  • Genetic
  • Race
  • family history
  • gender

DIAGNOSIS-

  • Random blood sugar- It is the screening test for type 1 diabetes.A blood sample is taken at random time. A blood sugar level of 200mg/dl or higher it diagnosis diabetes.
  • Glycated hemoglobin (A1C) Test- this test tells us about average blood sugar for the past three months.An A1C level of 6.5% or higher on two separate test indicate diabetes.
  • Fasting blood sugar test-A blood sample is taken when child fasts overnight. A fasting blood sugar level of 126mg/dl or high suggest type 1 diabetes.

TREATMENT-

  • taking insulin
  • frequent blood sugar monitoring
  • eat healthy food
  • regular exercise

DIETRY CHANGES-

Diet is a big component of any diabetes treatment plan but that doesn't mean child has to follow strict dist plan.

Child can eat the food that are high in nutrition and low in fat and calories for example-

  • vegetables
  • fruits
  • whole grains
  • lean protein
