The COLDERR stands for

  • The character of a pain
    • Can you describe the nature of pain?
  • The onset or time of the pain started
    • When has The pain started?
  • The site or the location of the pain in the body
    • At which part of the body the pain persist ,can you show the region of pain?
  • The prolongation of pain or the duration of pain experienced by the patient
    • How long is the pain experienced?
  • The aggregation or the exacerbation of the pain
    • What conditions,factors aggrevate your pain?
  • The radiation of the pain to distant site
    • is the pain radiating to the other part of the body from the original source?
  • The method followed to relieve a pain
    • How do you try to manage your pain?

This helps to identify the root cause of the pain and the measures taken by the person in the home to manage and control it.

The non nursing pharmacological interventions are

  • Ice application in case of swelling with tenderness
  • Heat application to impeovuse circulation
  • Encouraging to participate in the minimal household choir ,using televisions, music ,reading ,walking can be helpful to some extent to mange pain.
