What would you do if you've had a mother or parents refusing to listen to your nursing education recommendations? Given the example of a baby only in a diaper, which is soiled and the mom is sitting on her cell phone across the room. What is the best way to engage this mother without offending her? What if she does not show much interest in caring for the baby?

Nurses are one of the pioneer in patient care and the most seeked professionals for health education and awareness but it will not be the same case for a nurse to experience this in their home from their own family members. In those cases respond it through actions .For instance if wanted every family to wash hands or it will be better to take a body shower after coming from crowded places ,office ,work place, etc., in order to prevent infection, the nurse themselves has to do this first and then encourage others to do it.This way can make the parents or family members to follow their recommendations.

The best way to engage this mother without offending her is to first educate her on the disadvantages or the problems a baby can get when left with soiled diaper for a longer. This can make the mother to feel that they should not be the cause for their baby's suffering just because of not changing the diaper on time.The nurse can self motivate the mother in this way and make her do the work. (The reason for saying the disadvantages of not changing the diaper first is because the human brain always first listens and keenly addresses to the negative things than a positive things)

If she does not show much interest in caring the baby first change the soiled diaper and make time with the mother to understand the reason behind her lack of interest in caring for baby and provide psychological support and solutions.
