Nausea
Pathophysiology related to client's problem-
Nausea is caused due to stimulation of the nerve endings in duodenum that stimulates central nervous system and cause feeling of vomiting and nausea. it can be a symptom to various disorders ranging from serious condition to a trivial one some of these are- GIT infection, motion sickness, pregnancy, meningitis, nervous disorders, GIT disorders, etc.
Health Promotion and disease prevention-
To prevent disease and enhance health the client should be assessed for the main cause of nausea and educated to avoid triggers that cause this health issue.
Assessment
Risk factors-
pregnancy, motion sickness, nervous disorder, migraine, PONV, certain races, surgery, anxiety etc.
Expected findings-
Patient is suffering from nausea due to food poisoning and GI tract infection.
Laboratory test-
Stool and blood test are done to check for bacterial growth and infection
Diagnostic procedure-
Use of laboratory findings associated with the assessment and physical examination found that the patient is suffering from bacterial infection causing botulism
Safety consideration-
Avoid any meals from unhealthy and non-hygienic sources,Use only filtered water, Provide balanced diet to the patient, medications for symptomatic relief should be given, fluid therapy is suggested to safeguard fluid imbalances
Patient centered care
Nursing care-
Provide care to reduce the patient's nausea, by promoting better surrounding, hygiene, and helping the patient to position well during nausea
Therapeutic procedure-
prescription of anti-emetic, antibiotics medication, provide emotional support and mental health services, include the treatment for diet and nutrition
Medication-
anti-emetic, antibiotics medication
Client Education-
educate the client to position own self whenever the nausea persist, to avoid eating anything that may worsen the infection and to maintain appropriate hygiene.
Inter-professional care-
Doctors, nurses, dietician and care worker
Complications-
symptomatic dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, hypokalemia and esophageal tear.
