As the urea is the catabolic product of the protein. The protein is metabolised by the proteases and peptidases into urea a creatinine. This is the reason for increased urea level in urine. Further in case of prolonged fasting the protein is utilised as the prominent source of energy by the body after the carbohydrates and fat.

Thus again it generates similar catabolic product urea and become the reason to increase urinary urea.

Hence in this way urinary urea will increase with both an excessive intake of dietary protein and in an individual, who is undergoing a prolonged fast.
