They are important because they help an investor to understand the true financial position of a company by the study of these financial statements. It indicates the financial health of the company through the cash flow position, the results of operations which helps investors make an informed decision in choosing which stocks to invest their hard earned money in. It is also helpful to the government agencies in analyzing the taxes owned to them.
